Look Down, Lock Down
Many strange things have happened.
Many strange things did occur.
Wild animals moved to the city centre.
Now the endangered species is the restauranteur.
Many wonderful things took us by surprise.
Many wonderful things were unexpected.
A pheasant came calling, seals frolicked in the Thames,
And we realised how nature was all interconnected.
Many sad things became evident.
Many sad things and we were powerless.
People alone, people in masks,
Funerals brutal and flowerless.
And we wait for the future, will we ever fly there again?
And above resurgent nature, will we tenderly look down?
Or will we too easily forget the neighbourly pheasant
And of humanity will we again say, ‘send in the clown?’
